Wisdom from Proverbs: PRIDE

 

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverted mouth, I hate…A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is arrogant and careless…An arrogant man stirs up strife…There are six things which the LORD hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers…When pride comes, then comes dishonor…Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling…Before destruction the heart of man is haughty…"Proud," "Haughty," "Scoffer," are his names, who acts with insolent pride…There is a kind who is pure in his own eyes, yet is not washed from his filthiness. There is a kind--oh how lofty are his eyes! and his eyelids are raised in arrogance…A man's pride will bring him low…The LORD will tear down the house of the proud…Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; assuredly, he will not be unpunished.
