- There is one who pretends to be rich,
but has nothing; another pretends to be poor, but has great wealth…when I am
weak, then I am strong…Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be
comforted. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they
shall be satisfied…unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it
remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life
loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life
eternal…He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life
for My sake will find it…For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but
whoever loses his life for My sake will find it…And everyone who has left
houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My
name's sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life.
But many who are first will be last; and the last, first…Let no man deceive
himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must
become foolish, so that he may become wise…Two men went up into the temple to
pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and was
praying this to himself: 'God, I thank You that I am not like other people:
swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ‘I fast twice
a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing some
distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was
beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!' I tell you,
this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who
exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.
